9th edition of the D-Marin International Classical Music Festival will take to the stage on August 24

Celebrating The 9th Year Of Our Festival

Classical music lovers in Bodrum are in for a treat as numerous acclaimed artists from the music industry will take to the stage at a marina in the holiday resort town for the 9th edition of the D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival on August 24.

A performance by world-famous Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu and tenor Teodor Ilincai will open the festival on Aug. 24. They will be accompanied by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) under the baton of Spanish conductor Ramon Tebar. Gheorghiu and Ilincai will present pieces by Verdi, whose 200th birthday is being celebrated in various concerts around the world.

This year, the festival is scheduled to run from Aug. 24 to 25 and 27 to 28, according to a press release issued by the organizers of the event.

The second day of the festival will see a concert by violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov from Russia, billed as the "wizard of the violin." Led by Rengim Gökmen, the CSO will also accompany Vengerov for the performance, which will feature Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto in D Major.”

German cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta are set to play a concert on the third day of the festival. Consisting of 22 musicians who play without a conductor, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta will be headed by lead violinist Candida Thompson.

Turkish classical pianist Fazıl Say and the Borusan İstanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BİFO) led by the maestro Gürer Aykal will perform a concert on Aug. 28, in what will be the last performance of the festival.

The festival will also see admission-free performances on its second, third and last day, called "Sunset Recitals," at 7:00 p.m. in the amphitheater inside the marina. The concerts will feature numerous musicians, including flutist Halit Turgay, harpist Merve Kocabeyler and violinist Deniz Yücel. Tickets for the festival are available at D-Marin Turgutreis and www.biletix.com.
