FOR SALE – FOR STUDY – FOR SPORT

The announcement that the Yalikavak Marina is for sale was not totally unexpected as it was an open secret that ever since its opening some four years ago there were problems. Underexploited berth capacity, underused shopping facilities etc., all pointed to some shortcomings in management, not to mention continuing misgivings related to marina location. The reported interest in purchasing the marina of Mr. Ferit Sahenk, CEO of the Dogus Holding Group, was welcomed by many Yalikavak residents who hope that a more active, more professional operation would bring more extensive benefits to the community as has been shown by the performance of D-Marin Marina in Turgutreis which is owned by Dogus Holding. Let’s all hope for the best.

The symposium whose ambitious agenda was announced in this site on 3 March ’08 concluded with the publication of its Proceedings, a 563-page compendium of papers presented during the three-day event. Even a cursory examination of this thick volume shows that much thought and effort has gone into the great majority of the papers presented and such conscientious scholarly works deserve to be widely distributed, studied and implemented where applicable and possible. It is a pity that in this electronic information age these Proceedings are still not available online – the symposium website (http://bodrumsempozyum.tmmob.org.tr) accessed this date (17 Mar. ’08) only has the announcement of the “event to be”.

Bodrum Offshore Sailing Club (B.A.Y.K.) will host the fourth sailing race of the Winter Trophy Series on the weekend of 22-23 March ’08. Races will be held in both the IRC Racing and IRC Cruising Classes on both days and, as all good sailors deserve, there will be a cocktail party on Saturday and an awards ceremony on Sunday evening. Fair winds and good fun to you all!
