The Bodrum Offshore Yacht Club, known by its Turkish acronym BAYK, is holding the seventh annual series of Winter Trophy sailing races. The first races of this season were held this past weekend, 12-13 January 2008, but neither Zephyr, nor Boreas, nor their brother winds Notus or Eurus were in evidence, so the races taxed the patience of the 12 participating boats in the IRC Cruiser Class and the 24 boats in the IRC Racer category. Everyone in Bodrum is accustomed to the inevitable grumbling of most local business people who never seem satisfied with turnover or profits of the season past, many harking back to the “old days” of the early 1990s when demand outstripped supply.
