Mazı, the beautiful village of Gökova

Mazı is a charming village on the shore of the Gulf of Gökova, outside the Bodrum peninsula. It’s like a hidden corner of paradise waiting to be discovered… On the way from Bodrum to the airport, there is Mumcular junction after Güvercinlik. That intersection is the entrance of a different Bodrum. This is the introduction to the village life you missed. When you enter this road, you reach Mazı on a 30-kilometre road covered with pine forests that fires have damaged in the past years. luckily, Mazı roads are greening up again…

First you come to Upper Mazı, then to Lower Mazı. Here the road splits in two. You can reach İnce Yalı and Çakıllı Yalı on one side, and Hurma Beach, Ilgın and Sedef bays on the other. There are seaside restaurants and pensions in Hurma Beach, İnce Yalı and Çakıllı Yalı. You can rent a fishing boat to see other bays. The livelihood of Mazi is carpet weaving, olive growing, fishing, small-scale animal husbandry and beekeeping. But right now everyone is racing to sell land. In the very recent past, young girls weave carpets as beautiful as themselves in their homes. If you stop by any house in the village, you can see the carpets being made. Nowadays, young people are dying to escape to the cities as soon as possible… You can pass through the village and eat fresh sea fish and seafood at any restaurant on the shore of Mazı.

If you want to be a guest in one of the cute houses for a few days, you can rent a room full of wave voices and citrus scents.

You should definitely taste “sokkan”, the most famous fish in the region. Apart from this, delicious fish of the region such as sinarit,  fangri, grouper, lagos, red mullet, sea bream, sea bass, mullet, whiting, and leer are caught in the nets. You also have the chance to meet the fishermen on the beach at 10 am and reserve and eat whatever fish you want that day.
If you have free time, don’t forget to visit the mosaics that are still underground and historical sites that are thousands of years old and yet to be discovered.

The Carian Way passes through the
Çakıllı Yalı.

Carian Way, Turkey’s longest walking path, has a route of 850 km. It consists of 4 main sections, namely Bozburun and Datça Peninsulas, Gökova Bay and Inner Caria, and 1 additional section Muğla Environment.

The third stage of the Gökova Bay Route starts from Çiftlik village, stops by Çakıllı (Pebbled) Yalı of Mazı and continues to Gökbel, Bozalan, Türkevleri and Ören from there.
