Last week Bodrum passed another milestone by the inaugural docking of a cruise liner at the newly finished passenger pier. TSS (Turbine Steam Ship) Sky Wonder, perhaps the last steam turbine powered vessel to sail, was built in 1984. She has a long and interesting history which anyone interested can find in Wikipedia and other sites on the Internet. Of importance to Bodrum is that this event went off without a major hitch. There were no great traffic snarls forecast by some; but then this is not the middle of the tourist season when every street bulges with crowds. On Saturday, March 29 ’08 at 20:00 hrs all concerned with the great threat to the environmental well-being of our planet will join in Earth Hour by switching all lights, all electrical power, for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the urgent need for effective action on global warming. Like many other worthwhile endeavors, this one started with Earth Hour 2007 in Australia. As a result, at 8pm March 29, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tel Aviv will unite and switch off for Earth Hour.
