Kuwait Emir visits Bodrum – OTEL ’08 – BAYK Leg V etc
His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait if the official title of the ruler of that state who paid an official visit to Turkey last week, with a quick side-trip to Bodrum, and to Yalikavak where he has real estate owning relatives. This local visit probably wouldn’t attract much general interest except for reports that HH Sheikh Sabah IV Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (to quote his full name) may be interested in purchasing some properties, perhaps including the Port Bodrum Yalikavak Marina. The ways of the mighty are not easily fathomed but smart street talk in Yalikavak is giving only even odds on this prospective sale, though it could be of much benefit if such a change in ownership would bring in real professional management supported by financial resources. However, having been breast-fed on conspiracy theories and sensitized to plots and ploys, the street-smart local bloke ought to be excused if he is prone to suspect that it may be just some artful dodge to raise the ante… Among the rites of Spring in Bodrum are fairs, exhibitions and all other means of marketing of supplies and equipment to the primary local industries, tourism and catering. OTEL ’08 is one of these efforts directed mainly at hotel and restaurant operators. Entrance is free to this event taking place from 9 to 12 April; location: Bodrum Open Air Market area by the bus station, in front of TANSAS. The organizers promise to liven up the proceedings by the addition of various food/drinks preparation contests. The list of goods (equipment, food & beverages) to be presented is very long – it seems that it could be of interest to everyone. *The Bodrum Offshore Sailing Club’s Winter Trophy series of races continues on 12-13 April ’08, this time with an award, The Karia Princess Cup, to be presented to winners in this specific leg of the series. The IRC Cruiser and IRC Racer class boats compete separately over different courses with all presenting a sight for sore eyes. If you don’t compete or watch do visit the picture gallery at www.bayk.net. **While sea battles continue (see previous article) Yalikavak mayor denounced as untrue press reports of illegal villa construction in town precincts.
