Although known mostly as a summer holiday destination,
Bodrum is becoming increasingly popular with visitors
in the other seasons. The reasons are many, but probably
foremost is the chance to enjoy its attractions more
intimately by avoiding the hubbub of high season. Unlike
many holiday resorts Bodrum does not close its shutters
at summer’s end but continues an active though
less frenetic life of its own. The colorful bazaars
are open on their scheduled days, temperatures pleasant
and local people have more time for each visiting guest.
The scent of citrus blossoms
fills the air, the hills and valleys are green
with vegetation and the cool, sunny days are ideal
for hiking and sightseeing. The bustle of the
boatyards launching yachts is a fascinating attraction
and even Children’s Day festivities are
creative, worthy of this cosmopolitan town. |

Autumn begins with the Bodrum Cup Traditional Wooden
Yacht Regatta held
annually in the third a hundred stately wooden yachts
under full canvas is a sight to behold and it’s
a good time to sail.
The sea is still enticingly warm for swimming and it’s
a pleasure to visit historical and natural sites in
the cool weather – or to buy up bargains at end-of-season
sales!
Home to a large international community, Bodrum celebrates
both Christmas and New Year with gusto, revelers from
all over the country making New Year’s Eve a memorable
"happening". Snow is unknown, but most hotels
are heated to take off the chill. Camel wrestling is
the prime season attraction and tangerine orchards resplendent
with a profusion of fruit are worth the palette and
brush of a painter.
